Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and there’s currently no cure. It is the most feared condition amongst people over 50.
Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today. Last year the Society supported 210,000 people affected by dementia through their services.
There is enormous public concern about dementia, and the issue is gathering ever greater attention from all areas of society. As a consequence of this, and of the success of the organisation’s strategy, Alzheimer’s Society is the fasting growing major fundraising charity in the UK raising over £80m a year. With enormous unmet need, there is an urgent demand to raise significantly higher sums to tackle this devastating condition.
Alzheimer’s Society is now seeking an outstanding Director of Fundraising to drive forward the Society’s fundraising and commercial activities to achieve and maintain significant income growth. Through your inspirational leadership of a fundraising team of approximately 200 people you will build on existing strengths, expand current successful funding streams and develop new sources of income.
The role also involves being a key member of the Strategic Leadership Team, taking responsibility for the corporate management of the organisation and the development of Alzheimer’s Society strategy.
The Society is looking for a senior leader with excellent commercial and marketing acumen with extensive experience in a comparable senior position managing staff and volunteers, and with an exceptional track record of successful fundraising in the voluntary sector. You must have extremely strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and inspire people to achieve their full potential, in teams across the UK. You must have high-level financial management skills and substantial experience of initiating, developing and implementing fundraising strategies across a range of income streams. Empathy with the mission and aims of Alzheimer’s Society is also essential.
